A little different Spain - a day trip from Alicante

We discovered the Valencia and Alicante region in Spain – not the most well-known area for travelers, but definitely worth a visit!

We flew to Valencia and Alicante for five days and enjoyed the authenticity of real Spain, far from the typical tourist crowds found in other parts of the country.

Valencia is a wonderful city with a special and vibrant atmosphere, rich culinary offerings, and from there we continued by convenient train to Alicante.

Alicante itself is charming with a promenade along the seafront, Mushroom Street, an impressive fortress, and an old quarter full of restaurants and atmosphere.

But the highlight is the day trips in the surrounding area! We hired a guide and a car and drove along the Costa Blanca. We stopped in the town of Polop for a stunning view and a climb to the fortress, a walk around the unique square with 221 ancient water fountains fed by local spring water, and a visit to the home of the famous Spanish writer Gabriel Miró.

We continued to Guadalest – an amazing picturesque town built on a huge rock, with a fortress accessible through a tunnel carved into the rock. The view from the top is simply breathtaking! We also visited Antonio Marco's charming miniature dollhouse museum, and there are additional museums in the town.

Finally, we wandered the white, plant-filled streets of Altea – a perfect town for coffee, photography, and sea views. We returned to Alicante in the afternoon. There are still more destinations in the area that we unfortunately didn't get to visit, such as Elche, Murcia, Cartagena, Benidorm, and more. For those looking for a special, slightly different trip, full of nature, culture, and surprises – try Valencia and Alicante!
