Italy - On the way to Tuscany, stop at Civita di Bagnoregio
On the way to Tuscany, don't miss a magical and extraordinary gem - Civita di Bagnoregio.
If you are traveling from Rome or from Fiumicino Airport towards Tuscany, a stop of about two hours in this special town is a must.
An ancient and enchanting town located on a volcanic hill with stunning views, accessible only via a 300-meter-long pedestrian bridge over a dramatic valley.
Although the town is called a "ghost town" or a "dying town" due to its dwindling population from various geological hazards, it is safe and inviting to visit.
It is easy to reach by car up to a large parking lot, from where you can take a convenient shuttle to the viewpoint and the start of the bridge, at a cost of about 5 euros per person. The shuttle shortens a walk of about 20 minutes up the hill.
The town is located in the Lazio region, on your way to northern Italy, less than two hours from central Rome or the airport.
About 30 minutes north, you will find Orvieto – a charming historic walled town, worth dedicating a few hours to explore as well.
