France - Hiking and Wine in Burgundy

We recently traveled in the southern part of Burgundy, in the Beaujolais region. We wanted to participate in a wine tasting over the weekend, but suddenly we came across an interesting activity: one of the local wineries advertised a marked walking trail through the vineyards, where you can enjoy a picnic basket. The advertisement stated that they provide a hiking map and a picnic backpack, and in addition – a wine tasting before or after the walk. The activity sounded attractive to us; the weather was sunny and warm for mid-October, and we decided to book the experience. The next day we arrived in the morning at the charming village of Cherubelles, where we located the Christophe Savoy estate. We could choose between a short 5 km walk, a medium 10 km walk, or a long 18 km route. We chose the 10 km walk, received a backpack containing water, wine, bread, cheese, and sausage, as well as our route map, and off we went! The walk passed through hills covered in vineyards, whose colors shone in all the red and yellow shades of autumn. Every now and then we met other tourists who also carried picnic tables and backpacks, but most of the time we walked alone.

Considering the many photo stops and a leisurely picnic break, the entire trip took about four hours—and the route was fairly easy. When we returned to the estate, they gave us a tasting of some of their excellent wines.

It was a great day out - we really enjoyed it, and we highly recommend this activity to anyone who loves hiking and wine.
